A discussion with Ben Mennem, MB92 Group Vice Chairman & Interim CEO
When someone is highly skilled and experienced, they can often make the complex seem effortless. However, the reality is rarely so simple. Since December, Ben Mennem has stepped into the role of Interim CEO of MB92 Group while the company searches for a long-term leader. With a steady hand and extensive industry experience alongside Pepe García-Aubert, Ben brings invaluable insight and leadership to this period.
Speaking about this phase and how the company is progressing, Ben’s deep understanding of the refit industry and client needs comes through. “Flexibility, listening to our clients, and working with them – this has always been Pepe’s and my approach. We may not be perfect – nothing ever is – but our job is to help solve problems and I believe in our capacity to deliver results that add value.”
Relationship focus
At its core, this industry is about people and the relationships we build. For Ben, long-term success comes from trust and genuine care. “In refit, numbers often take centre stage—and while they are essential, dialogue and an open mindset are just as critical,” he explains. “My priority is to earn and maintain trust, ensuring that clients return year after year not just because we meet expectations, but because they know that we have their best interests at heart, and we stand by our promises.”
A people-centric approach
Over the past few years, MB92 Group has grown significantly, now employing over 400 people. While many long-standing employees are familiar with Ben and Pepe’s leadership, there are also many new faces. So, what is his message to them? Has the company’s approach changed?
“We are only as good as our people,” Ben emphasises. “We have incredible talent here. I bring experience and can help navigate, but I truly believe that empowerment, not dominance, brings success, and that a well-organised team with the right people in the right roles creates real value. In sport, as in business, the last thing you want is everyone just chasing after the ball.”
Another key component of MB92’s service is the strong relationships it maintains with its global supplier network. Recognising their critical role in the company’s success, Ben is prioritising collaboration and communication.
“We rely on our suppliers. We are committed to strengthening bi-directional communication to support each other in planning and the execution of the works. I believe transparency is essential – it helps us overcome challenges and work more intelligently and effectively together.”

Evolution not revolution
MB92 Group’s footprint now extends beyond its shipyards in Barcelona and La Ciotat. MB92 Red Sea is progressing rapidly, operations have recently begun at MB92 Golfe-Juan, and the acquisition of GYG Ltd. adds another dimension to the Group’s capabilities. Managing these developments effectively during this interim period is no small task, but Ben remains focused and optimistic.
“Regarding GYG Ltd., our approach is evolution, not revolution – we will take things step by step. The important thing is that we share common goals, and I believe we can achieve them more efficiently together.”
Ben is also particularly excited about MB92 Golfe-Juan. “Its strategic location gives us a foothold right in the heart of the Côte d’Azur, enabling us to provide immediate solutions to all yachts up to 43m LOA. It’s crucial to build strong, trusted relationships and our objective is to provide them with our full support and a first-class service.”
Meanwhile, MB92 Red Sea continues to take shape, with 2025 set to be a pivotal year. “The yacht repair centre represents a key step forward in our growth strategy of being where our clients need us. We are already seeing strong interest from clients in the region and look forward to starting operations soon.”
A return to core principles
Ben’s message to clients, employees, and partners is clear: a renewed focus on fundamentals.
“Our priority is to be the best we can be – maintaining open and honest relationships with our clients, team, and partners. We look forward to delivering the best possible refit solutions for our clients while continuing to grow sustainably.”
With Ben at the helm, MB92 Group is in good hands, renewing its commitment to its clients – to listen, learn, and improve.
