Experience brings many advantages, but perhaps the most valuable is perspective, the ability to see beyond individual tasks and understand how every element fits into the bigger picture.
For Andrea Ros, a naval engineer with over 15 years at MB92 Barcelona, that perspective is central to her role. Over the years, she has evolved from leading the Purchasing department to also overseeing Logistics and Customs, further strengthening her expertise with a Master’s degree in Customs Management in 2018.
Her technical background continues to shape her approach today.
“Engineering teaches you to understand how all the moving parts fit together. In our world, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every project is different, and my focus is always on making sure everything works together as efficiently and seamlessly as possible.”
Refit projects are inherently complex, involving a constant flow of materials, tight timelines and multiple regulatory frameworks. Andrea’s role sits at the intersection of all of these factors.
From the origin of a component to the yacht’s flag registry, tax status, and final destination, every decision carries operational and financial implications.
“When you factor in supply chains, countries of origin and destination, customs regimes, and tax structures, experience becomes critical. It allows you to anticipate challenges, minimise disruption and bring a sense of control. Our clients value that, especially when timelines are tight and the stakes are high.”
Much of this work begins well before a yacht arrives in the yard. Andrea’s team works to define sourcing strategies, optimise costs and ensure materials are available when required.
Each project is supported by a dedicated purchasing agent with a technical background, ensuring clarity in communication and the ability to engage suppliers with precision.
“Our technical expertise allows us to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions and provide meaningful support to both clients and project teams. It’s about simplifying complexity.”
Andrea has played a pivotal role in some of MB92 Barcelona’s most important operational advancements, most notably the establishment of bonded warehouse status (ADT & DAP) in 2020. The availability of a dedicated Customs zone, together with the introduction of a new Procurement Account format, enables a more centralised and streamlined approach to managing purchases via the digital client portal, The Bridge by MB92. This not only simplifies procurement processes but, in certain cases, also unlocks applicable fiscal benefits, an added value that has been highly appreciated by our clients.
These milestones have contributed to transforming the client experience.
“Previously, many customs processes were handled off-site. Achieving bonded status allowed us to integrate everything within the shipyard. Today, clients can unload, store and manage goods directly here, often avoiding unnecessary import taxes and reducing administrative burden.”
Combined with existing RPA frameworks, these capabilities translate into both cost efficiencies and operational flexibility, key differentiators for MB92.
Customs and tax regulations can be difficult to navigate, particularly as global trade conditions evolve. Andrea and her team play a critical advisory role, working alongside the Contracts department to guide clients through complex scenarios.
This became particularly evident in the aftermath of Brexit, where supply chains and cost expectations shifted significantly.
“We often support crew and clients in understanding not just what to order, but how and from where. In some cases, the cost implications can outweigh the benefit. Our role is to provide clarity upfront, so there are no surprises later.”
Transparency, responsiveness and solution-driven thinking are at the core of her team’s approach.
“Refit periods are intense. Our goal is to remove uncertainty, provide clear guidance and ensure the process runs smoothly in the background so clients can focus on the bigger picture.”
Andrea also oversees MB92’s warehouse operations, a critical component in ensuring materials flow efficiently through the yard. Led by David Benito, the warehouse team manages a fast-paced environment that balances scale with precision.
From large assets such as tenders and equipment to day-to-day consumables, the facilities are designed to support both project requirements and crew needs.
“Attention to detail is essential in our warehouse operations, but equally important is the service mindset. The team provides a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach that our clients and colleagues really value.”
With multiple projects, tight deadlines and high-value assets in motion at any given time, maintaining perspective is key to success.
“It’s easy to become overwhelmed by complexity, particularly towards the end of a project. That’s when process and experience matter most. You rely on structured ways of working and trusted partners to deliver results.”
Her approach is grounded in pragmatism and honesty.
“There is almost always a solution. And when there isn’t, transparency is essential. That’s what builds trust and, ultimately, that’s what our clients expect from us.”
Andrea’s role exemplifies a critical but often unseen dimension of MB92’s service offering: the ability to manage complexity, reduce risk and deliver efficiency across every stage of a refit.
By combining technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and a client-centric mindset, her team ensures that what could be a source of friction becomes a source of value, helping projects run smoothly, predictably and with confidence.
